Beware Greeks bearing gifts is the expression that sprang to mind when reading this

Is this the same man and boiler as in this unrelated news item posted last week? He gets around doesn't he?

Gas Safe Registered "engineer" jailed for issuing fraudulent certificate

Would have amused some of us no doubt if it had been a Gas Safe Inspector but regretfully not.

Call for Borders people to be CO aware and install carbon monoxide alarms.

Sniffer still feels it necessary to mention that the use of the word many by the MP is far from true. Many as compared to what. Not the number of people who die of prostate cancer or die from not being able to afford heating.

So here is a question. If all these people installed CO alarms what would be the annual cost and how many lives would they be expected to save?

Compare with Alzheimers and the recent research suggesting copper pipes can heighten the risk of it . 400,000 sufferers in Britain annualy? Now that is many.

One notices that now CORGI is no longer in the business of registering Gas Engineers and collecting fees from ACS bodies, the CORGI Trust report coincidentally suggests that it is at the lowest number ever and suprise suprise linked rather more to open flued boilers and lack of servicing rather than incompetent or bad workmanship.

Same old same old from Stephanie Trotter's M.P.

Q) Why do so many MPs jump on the band-wagon?

A) it costs them nothing. It makes them look like they care. It distracts from all that nonsense about expenses claims. As to any real thought . Forget it.

Oh and if you're Stephanie Trotter's M.P. it means you won't receive letters from her demanding to know why you don't agree with her point of view.

Be interesting to see if there is parity over sentencing compared with news item above.

Unregistered fined for leaving boiler in unsafe condition

Sniffer has come across quite a few loft installations which were difficult to work on, but is that the same as leaving in an unsafe condition? Nothing in this article explains.

Also from the HSE site equally strange.

Once again Sniffer would like to draw attention to the plight of the elderly 37,600 who died of freezing weather up 12,000 on last year

As Sniffer has commented on many occasions before puts carbon monoxide incidents and the focus on them into perspective

More on the Corfu trial

Sniffer was wondering if travel reps from other countries inspect our hotels for gas Safety. Is it reasonable that all EU countries need to inspect each others hotels. For instance was the Great Western Hotel also in the news this week inspected by any other country who included it in their brochures.

Harry Rogers statement at the end is interesting at Corfu trial

When he was asked if Thomas Cook was to blame for the boiler he said that he did not know how a tour operator operates. However, he said that any reasonable person that had any knowledge of a boiler could see that there was something wrong with it.

Many reasonable people I know have no knowledge or interest in boilers.

Not really funny for this couple in Russia but just practising to become a Sun journalist in case the career in Gas goes pear shaped.

Terrible tragedy . One really feels for the people involved but it seems a shame to have all these separate organisations somehow. Its almost getting to the stage of one per victim.
